Cryptowall is an infection that will encode your files with heavy encryption so they cannot be used until the ransom is paid to the attacker. Recently, Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center was hit by this strain of infection and forced to pay the ransom to get critical client data back from the attackers.

On March 4th, a new ransomware "KeRanger" infected Apple OS X.  Users of Transmission, a BitTorrent client, may have recieved the following software update notification:  

To determine is KeRanger is present on your Mac, see if these files exist.  If they exist, DELETE them and uninstall the Transmission app.
