A New Malware is Being Spread Through Facebook Messenger

Facebook Mesenger: Beware of Malware!

A new malware is being spread through Facebook's Messenger app, sending users a message to links that lead to "spoof" website. According to @Panda_Security, this malware was uncovered by a security expert who received a suspicious message from one of their Facebook friends and decided to analyze it.

This attack is being sent in the form of a video with a shocked emoji next to the video that contains a URL link. What makes it scary is that Facebook users will get this message from one of their Facebook friends and as users click on this video, they will be redirected to a blurry picture that looks like a video. As users advance to press on the video, they are then redirected to another website, "depending on their Web browser, operating system, location and other factors," where users will be prompted to install malicious software.

How to Stay Protected:

  1. Always make sure you have an up-to-date Antivirus installed on your devices.
  2. Always use caution when clicking on any link that you are unaware of what the domain name is coming from, even if it's from a Facebook friend
  3. Make sure that you or those around you are always cyber aware
